Professional Background
Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health after completing his undergraduate studies in Biology with a Neuroscience emphasis at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center.
His professional journey has spanned military medicine, clinical leadership, and academic research. He served as Department Chief of Otolaryngology at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and as an attending head and neck surgeon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he treated patients with complex ENT conditions. His military service also included surgical support at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and during overseas operations in Iraq.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is licensed to practice medicine in Maryland. His research has included key contributions to NIH- and Department of Defense-funded studies focused on facial nerve regeneration and the effects of radiation on head and neck tissues. He also serves as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the University of Texas at Austin.
